Politics — “Democracy Dies In Darkness”

By. Oliver Schofield-Tydalé

Lotta tough talk about being a warrior for capitalism from people who don’t pack meat or stock shelves or clean things or serve people.

Q: Why is going back to work worth dying for?
A: Don't ask me, you're the one who's going to be dying.

Yeah, I noticed that. I'm also hearing a lot of "get out there and get to work" from people hunkering down from safe bunkers and rich. Every politician touting that “America wants to go back to work” should lead by example and work in a hospital or grocery store for a week, to show us how safe it is or maybe they could open up their capitol buildings to public tours. starting with the white house.

I’m one of those warriors working in the construction trade making sure Americans homes are working wether an electrical, plumbing, or service issue and I appreciate the words shared from the POTUS thanks for asking. Your not one of those stocking shelves either, right? I too work in the trades, and own a business : "HVAC/Refrigeration and electrical"

Opening the country up early for ”the economy” is BS = "If you cut a corner on a job, you’ll be back to fix it again and the second time is more difficult bc you didn’t do it right in the first place"

  • If the economy is so ready to be open, why doesn’t Trump go do a tour of the states he is encouraging to open?
  • Why doesn’t he man up and visit a covid unit to see what the disease does to patients? Putin did it
  • What is Trump afraid of?

Lotta talk about just staying shutdown forever from people who don’t have to worry about their current income, future employment or loved ones going hungry. FYI — NO ONE wants to stay shut down forever. That’s the problem with these protest folks, can’t understand that everyone else is in the same situation but just choose not to whine about it. Re-opening safely so 3,000 people/day don’t die is the priority. Get on board!

"That's where socialism would protect those people but we don't want them to survive do we? We want them to be martyrs for the economy"

Q: Just curious. How can socialism protect people if the rich aren’t making any money from being shut down. If they don’t make money they can’t pay taxes. If there is no money coming from the rich there is no money going to everyone else. How would we combat that?

A: If they got taxed properly and the money was being used for essential services instead of corporate subsidies we would have a surplus to draw from for an extended period. Granted, it wouldn't last forever but it would give us some breathing room to not reopen super fast.

Q: How long could that be sustainable for? Since there doesn’t seem to be an end in sight for this thing how long could holding out last before all money is gone. Even with higher tax rates on the rich.

A: Good question. I'm not an expert, I'm just trying to think of solutions because sending everyone to work when it's not safe is not a very good one. I honestly feel like we need to rethink society as a whole to figure out how to get through this and future pandemics.

A lot of talk of leaving everything closed from people who are still getting paid and don’t have to worry about debt collectors.
Yet all the people I know who do have debt collectors calling are the ones wanting to go back to work. I guess all those protestors are millionaires.

Dear. America.

Seems a decision has been made somewhere behind closed doors that during the largest viral pandemic in our epoch, we're going the natural transmission to immunity route and not waiting for a vaccine. NY, IL and CA depending on hospitalizations instead of testing and infection. We cannot have a forever lockdown and this current situation, while necessary, harms the health of many. So we should pursue normalcy where possible but the loosening of restrictions in many states appears to be based more on politics than science.

It has been 7 weeks, lockdown’s cause harm because the government is not stepping up where it needs to. You should focus more on that than co-opting terms like "forever lockdown" We’ve lost 70,000+ Americans in two months, and that is with lockdowns. Dems are not up to the task before them. We need leaders especially right now ones who will go to the wall every day, one’s who will not acquiesce to watered-down drivel from McConnel for political convenience and expedience.

We need leaders with compassion. I see plenty of compassion, I see little leadership.
